First Blog Post

Decided to create a blog to compile all my birding notes and wildlife experiences for my own and hopefully others' amusement. No idea how long this will last but thought I'd give it a try and see how it goes...

First post is actually about insects. Several years ago my family decided to abandon our garden lawn and instead leave it uncut until the winter each year for the benefit of insects, etc. This year it's done especially well so thought it deserved a little appreciation post.

Nice growth of Knapweed and Horseshoe Vetch among other stuff

Over the past week I've recorded the following species in the garden:

Silver-washed Fritillary, Common Blue (not a species I'd noticed much around where I live before), Red Admiral, Peacock, Small Skipper, Large Skipper, Marbled White, Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Brimstone, Gatekeeper, Green-veined White, Large White, Small White, Silver Y and a Hummingbird Hawkmoth (first of the year for me).
